about camp

Our mission is to cultivate youth leaders who will make a positive difference in schools and communities across Nova Scotia. We focus on students who have natural leadership skills but whose life circumstances may create barriers to achieving their potential.

IMG_1263 (2) (800x533)Nominated by their schools, our Catapulters have enormous leadership potential but lack opportunities to cultivate their skills.  Each summer, 50 students are selected to attend our unique 1-week camp at Acadia University and work with local and international leaders who are experts in the field of motivating teens.

The program is high energy, interactive, inspirational, exciting and fun. The end result is a boost to self confidence and self empowerment as the students head off to start high school with strength and determination. Our students also take home a new peer network of 50 close friends who provide encouragement and support through the years to come.

Our program explores:
•leadership dynamics
•benefits of teamwork
•problem solving
•community leadership
•communication
•focus and goals
•the benefits of managed risk taking
•and so much more.

Catapult’s experienced and capable staff is led by Program Director “Mr. Phil” Gugliuzza, a dynamic leadership expert from New Orleans who has inspired thousands of students in over 13 countries. Our Student & Staff Director, Julian Maynard, hails from Nassau, Bahamas, and now lives, works and studies in Boston, Mass. and has spent numerous summers working camps in Europe. Solidifying the team as Administrative Director is Catapult Founder, Jane Roy of Bedford, NS. They are supported by a team of counsellors (all university students), a nurse and top notch speakers – ensuring a FUN and engaging camp experience.

“Catapult changed my life.   It was the first time in my life where I was truly myself.  Pink night was when we all really opened up and became completely comfortable with each other. This night let us open up and become better friends.
Pink night was a moving, inspirational and spectacular night.”
